THE KEYS TO SURVIVING 30 DAY CHALLENGES

The Keys To Surviving 30 Day Challenges

For the month of August we're embarking on a 30 Day Fruit Challenge and it is exactly what it sounds like - 30 days of eating only fruit.

Who is we? Anyone looking to restart their health, address health complications and/or go a little bit deeper with their healing.

While there are certainly levels to healing, mentally and physically, anytime you believe you're ready for a change I think you should act on it.

When it comes to health challenges there's a fine line between willpower and common sense. With that said, I promise you our mental programming and habitual tendencies usually play a more significant role in our ability to be disciplined and committed to a certain lifestyle than the lifestyle itself.

Whether you're joining the 30 Day Fruit Challenge or thinking of embarking on any type of 30 Day Challenge to improve your health and overall wellness, there are a few keys that can assist you during the process.

SET AN INTENTION

Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind. Romans 14:5

I will continue to say it over and over again - intention is everything!

Why do you do what you do?

I know it's tempting to jump on the next challenge being promoted (even those I promote) however it's important to know why you are starting a challenge.

What does this mean to you? Why do you want to start? Why do you intend on finishing? What would you like to accomplish/learn from the challenge and why?

I can't speak for anyone else or any other challenge but my goal here with anything I present is to help you get back to you.

That is essentially what true health and wellness is - coming into your own power and self awareness.

This is not about following others, instead about awakening you. Realizing that internally, your spirit, your highest self, the divine, the God within or whatever you wanna call it, knows what to do.

The same divine power and wisdom that flows through me or those you admire is the same power and wisdom that flows through you.

Set an intention, trust yourself, then seek and I guarantee you you'll find.

BREAK IT DOWN IN PHASES

We often have the tendency to look at the end goal instead of taking challenges one step at a time and either one of two things happens. We either get so discouraged that we never start or we succumb to our thoughts and quit during the process.

This is what I love so much about the health and wellness journey. The internal work on self. The mental mastery that results from enjoying the process, learning and trying over and over again.

I remember reading Hal Elrod's Miracle Morning book a while ago and it speaks to how you can change your life by starting your day off with a power hour of reading, writing, visualizing, meditating, exercising, and stating affirmations.

One particular concept that he referenced really stood out and that was the idea of breaking down 30 day challenges into 3 phases instead of trying to tackle it in its totality of 30 days.

Project Rook 3 Phases of 30-Day Challenge
  1. DAY 1-10 (UNBEARABLE PHASE)
This is the stage where you're trying something new and different than your "normal" and it is difficult and a little painful. The goal here is to focus on the fact that this is temporary, only 10 days!
  2. DAY 11-20 (UNCOMFORTABLE PHASE)
This is the stage where you've already proven to yourself that you can do it so now it's time to activate the two oldie but goodies - discipline and commitment. You're halfway there!
  3. DAY 21-30 (UNSTOPPABLE PHASE)
This is the phase where your own perspiration has turned into motivation and you're only reinforcing what you've done for the past 20 days. Once you hit day 21 you are a believer and there's no one you're quitting now!

  4. Slow and steady wins the race, my friends.

STEP OUTSIDE OF YOURSELF

I could give you every tip in the world, post case studies from others, or even carry a video around with me chronicling everything you need to know to get through a 30 day challenge, but please know that none of this will exempt you from the process - from doing the work yourself.

But why would you really want it to though?

Is your goal to become your best? Whatever that looks like.

Are you really serious about making you your greatest assignment?

Is the discomfort of challenges and trying to "figure it out" worth the rewards of growing and expanding - mind, body and spirit?

If it is, you're going to have to step outside of the you that you currently know in order to become acquainted with the you who's been patiently waiting for you to request its presence.

While I certainly believe in the physical benefits to these challenges, especially the 30 Day Fruit Challenge, know that the goal of any of these challenges is much deeper.

This really is about self discovery.

What are your weaknesses?
What people and environments stir up different emotional responses within you?
What is happening when your cravings are the strongest?
What are thoughts when you're feeling lazy and sorry for yourself?
At what moments do you feel your most powerful?
Are you ok alone with yourself and your mind, just are you are?

Every step you take to better yourself, whether it's a 30 day challenge or implementing new daily rituals, know that coupled with intention and a genuine pursuit, you are strategically positioning yourself towards expansion and alignment.

So try to do something different. Come outside of your comfort zone. Master your weaknesses. Take control of your thoughts and start directing the things in your life rather than allowing it to direct you.

Just be.

Present yourself with a challenge and accept it. Hold the fire to your own ass and don't make excuses while also loving yourself just as you are (ah, one of the great paradoxes of life).

Then relax. Knowing that you cannot fail and you cannot get it wrong.

And if it doesn't go as planned, try again.

Rinse and repeat. Why?

Everything comes if a man will only wait...a human being with a settled purpose must accomplish it, and nothing can resist a will that will stake even existence for its fulfillment. - Benjamin Disraeli

  1. Make a decision to start your 30 Day Challenge and set an intention.
  2. Break your 30 days down into 3 phases and only focus on one phase at a time.
  3. Love yourself enough to hold yourself to the fire of discomfort while at the same time being merciful enough to know when to let up. Balance.
